Gregory Chletsos of Easton, PA passed away surrounded by his loved ones early Wednesday, February 14th, 2024.
Gregory was born November 5th, 1946 in
Newark, NJ to Ann and Peter Chletsos. The third of six children (the eldest died in infancy,) Greg was raised in
North Arlington, NJ along with his older brother, Theodore, and younger siblings Thomas, Joan, and Carol. Greg graduated from North Arlington High School where he served as President of the Student Council, President of the National Honor Society, and pitcher for Varsity Baseball. After enlisting in the US Marines and attending OCS where he earned marksmanship badges for rifle and service pistol, Greg served a tour of duty in Vietnam as First Lieutenant and a final rank of Captain, earning The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with Four Bronze Stars, Vietnamese Campaign Medal with Device, the Combat Action Ribbon, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm. Following the Marines, he returned to NJ where he met his wife, Irene, at Jimmy Byrne's Sea Girt Inn. Greg earned his Bachelor's Degree from Farleigh Dickinson University. Greg married Irene in 1974 and following the birth of his first son in North Arlington, bought a home in Toms River, where his second and third son were born. He and his family later made their home in
Edison, NJ until he and Irene recently bought a home in Palmer Township (Easton) PA.
His generosity of spirit, capacity for gentleness, humor, fierce protectiveness and unbounded loyalty for his family and friends were recognized and admired by all who loved him. Greg was an adoring husband and father. All of his endeavors and energies were always focused on his family. He loved nothing more than having a meal (which he most often prepared) with family, whether it was with his boys and his wife, or with the whole extended family and his friends. Greg loved summers at the shore with his family, enjoying the sun and surf in Seaside Park, Ortley Beach, and Sea Girt.
Professionally, Greg was a tireless and driven leader who had the respect and loyalty of his colleagues, rising to the dual role of CFO/COO, and, for a time, acting President, at Slim Fast Foods International until relinquishing that role when the company moved across the country in order to avoid uprooting his family, which was always his first and only priority. Later in his career, Greg specialized in assisting companies that were transitioning through mergers or structural/financial transitions.
Greg happily spent the last years of his life having the opportunity to devote his time fully to his wife, Irene, and to his children. Throughout his life, Saturdays in particular were special for cooking (often Greek food) and, particularly, Limnos-style spanikopita, meticulously and time-consumingly making and rolling the filo by hand. His extended family always looked forward to the pita at family gatherings, as he was constantly asked: "Are you making pita?"
Greg is survived by his loving wife Irene, his three adoring sons, Theodore, Christopher, and Michael, his brother Thomas, his sister Joan, his sister Carol, and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, whom Greg kept in his heart as true family.
Visiting will be Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 10:00am until 12:00noon at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home 2482 Church Road,
