Gregory "Greg" Allen Conner, 53, of Kewanee, died Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at his residence. Greg was born January 2, 1970, in Kewanee, the son of Jim Conner and Georgia (Rogula) Polowy. Greg attended Annawan High School, where he was an amazing football player. He played on the 1987 team that was in the final four playoffs. He graduated with the class of 1988. He also attended Illinois State University. Greg married Veronica "Wendy" Nanninga on February 14, 2003, at the First Methodist Church, Kewanee; they later divorced, but remained friends.
Greg is survived by his mother, Georgia (Joe) Polowy, Alaska; brother, Jeff (Trina) Conner, Kewanee; three children, Haley (Cameron) McBride, Kewanee, Payton Conner, Kewanee, James "JP" Conner, Kewanee; two grandchildren, Raegan McBride, Theo McBride; aunts and uncles, Steve (Karen) Rogula, Sharon Rogula, Linda Simmons, Danny (Jo) Conner, Bob (Deb) Conner; nieces and nephews, Liz, Daniel, Alicia, Kassandra; and lots of cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Conner; sister, Stephanie Conner; uncles, Sam Conner, Denny Rogula, Mickey Rogula; and grandparents, Ella and Harold Conner, Mike and Mary Rogula.
Greg worked at Lloyd's with his family during his younger years. He worked as a machine operator multiple places, such as: Pines, MTM, and Macon. He found his love for cooking while working at Hamps in Annawan during High School; he always made more than enough. Greg was an avid Jeopardy watcher and retained History like a sponge. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, hunting, and fishing at the Hennepin Canal. Greg loved being a grandpa and spending time with his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 22, 2023 at the Elks Lodge from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Memorials may be directed to the family. Please leave an online condolence for Greg's family at www.golnickschuenemanfh.com.
