Gregory L. Cooper, a cherished soul, departed this life on January 19, 2026, in St. Louis, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, on November 20, 1958, Greg graced our world with his vibrant spirit, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and a profound connection to God.
From a young age, Greg exhibited a personality that was distinctly warm and inviting. His spirituality and faithfulness were apparent in every aspect of his life, as he devoted himself to both his church and his family. As a Deacon in his Christian Church, he dedicated himself to uplifting those around him, embodying a humble and caring nature that touched many lives.
Greg's love for music ran deep. He was an avid follower of Jimi Hendrix, dedicating countless hours to perfecting the guitar. With a mesmerizing ability to play, often mimicking Hendrix’s iconic style by strumming the guitar behind his head, he thrilled family and friends alike. His joy in music was an expression of his spirit, bringing people together in harmonious celebration.
Those who knew Greg fondly remember his wit and humor. He had an extraordinary ability to lighten any mood, always ready with a clever remark or a playful jab, endearing him to his siblings and friends. He cherished the camaraderie with his brothers and sister, fostering a brotherly bond that was unbreakable, yet he always had a special affection for his sister -in-laws.
He loved to affectionately refer to others as “jokers,” a testament to his playful personality.
In his free time, Greg could be found engaged in activities that brought him joy—whether it was watching black and white classic films or strumming away on his guitar. His vivacious nature and penchant for laughter made him not just a brother, an uncle, and a friend, but also a beacon of positivity for all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.
Greg will be profoundly missed by his siblings, Darrell (Wanda) Cooper, Tara Cooper, Brian Cooper, and William (Donna) Cooper. His legacy also lives on through his beloved nieces and nephews, including Dawana (Marcus) Fugate, Darrell Cooper Jr, Darrien Cooper, Ardell Cooper, Carlene Cooper-Johnson, Jennifer Cooper, Alexandria Cooper, as well as Jasmine Cooper, Jocelyn Cooper, Jordon Cooper, Jeremiah Cooper, and many more great-nieces and nephews who adored him. Greg is survived by many other family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
His parents, Carlene McKinney and Willie R. Cooper, alongside his brother, Gary Cooper, have welcomed him into eternity, as have his nephew Jaydon Cooper and great-nephew Kayveon Dee James Calvy, who surely greeted him with open arms.
A vibrant spirit like Greg's leaves a void that will never be filled, but the memories of his laughter, his music, and his love will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who knew him. As we say farewell to this extraordinary man, let us carry forward the warmth and joy he imparted to our lives. A visitation will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Newcomer in St Peters. The funeral service will begin just following the visitation and a graveside service will commence following the funeral at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens in St Louis.
