Gregory J., Flotte
May 27, 1959 - February 9, 2026
Gregory J. Flotte was baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection and welcomed into the world by his loving parents, Dr. Sylvester A. Flotte and Patricia Flotte (nee Bauman), on May 27, 1959. A lifelong St. Louis resident, Greg was the beloved husband of Charlene L. Flotte (nee Lindemeyer). He was the loving father of three children, Lauren M. Flotte (Christopher Barnhart), Lindsay N. Flotte, and David J. Flotte (Allegra Kelley), whom he shared with his former spouse, Mary L. Flotte. Dear grandfather of Keaton M. Williams, Kaden T. Loeb, and Paden H. Lobb. Dear brother to Karen M. Flotte (John Posey) and to the late Mary K. Flotte. Dear uncle of John Wesley Posey.
Greg was a born entrepreneur, starting several businesses in middle school - from selling clean, used golf balls to the golfers at the Creve Coeur Golf Course which was located just beyond the fence of his childhood home, to handcrafting candles to sell, to managing a small lawn and garden service. He was a boy - and later a man - unafraid of hard work and naturally inclined to operate every venture carefully and profitably. Like many boys, Greg was passionate about cars, but unlike many others his love developed into a successful lifelong career, beginning with an after-school job sweeping floors at a local Plymouth dealership. From this humble start, Greg built a successful 45-year career in the automotive industry earning respect and a strong reputation as he rose from a salesman to sales manager and ultimately achieved his dream of becoming a part-owner and general manager of a dealership.
Greg had a reputation for working hard and playing hard too, although those closest to him knew that he found his deepest peace in nature. He was always at ease fishing in the quiet, dark, predawn hours from his jon boat on Innsbrook's Lake Aspen, or quietly gazing out on the woods, listening to nature's soft symphony and watching for animals. Over the years, Greg welcomed many cats into his home. This connection to cats deepened over time as mobility limitations kept him home and his cats became truly cherished companions. After six years of struggling with disability and health issues, Greg passed peacefully at home. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He touched many lives - from his loving family, to his many friends, and to those he worked alongside throughout his remarkable career. Greg was a true original, a free and wild spirit. To love him was also to let him be free. We remember this as we say goodbye, trusting that he has left his health challenges behind and is now free again.
