Gregory Thomas Henkel, known affectionately as Greg, passed away on March 25, 2024, at the age of 75.

His life was marked by unwavering dedication to service, from his military service to his distinguished careers in air traffic control and law enforcement. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Greg served his country with pride for six years in the Army before transitioning to a career as an air traffic controller at Indianapolis Airport. For three decades, he ensured the safety and efficiency of air travel, earning respect and admiration from colleagues and the aviation community alike. After his distinguished career in aviation, Greg continued his commitment to public service as a dedicated member of the Indianapolis Police Department's Reserved Officer Unit and Special Investigation Unit of the Reserve and Vice Branch. His role in maintaining public safety and upholding the law was a testament to his unwavering commitment to his community.

Beyond his professional achievements, Greg was a devoted husband to Julie Koch Henkel, with whom he shared a bond built on love and unwavering companionship. He found joy in his beloved Bichon Frise and cherished his collection of Snoopy cartoons, a reflection of his playful spirit and love for nostalgia. Greg’s compassionate nature extended beyond his personal life. He generously volunteered his time with dog therapy programs at Community Hospital, where he and his furry companion brought comfort and joy to patients in need. His dedication to spreading happiness through the healing power of animals touched the lives of many.

His legacy of service, compassion, and dedication will be fondly remembered and cherished by his beloved wife, Julie, his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
