Gregory Dean Martin, 69 of Whitsett, went to be with his Lord & Savior; surrounded by his family on Friday, November 7th, 2025 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, following a sudden illness.
A native of Surry County, he was the son of Billy Joe Martin and Maxine Settle Martin Gentry, both deceased.
Greg relocated to
Burlington, NC in 1994 and was a Regional Manager at IPS (formerly Southland Electrical) at the time of his death. He was a Plant Manager at Gold Toe Hosiery.
Greg was a member of Harvest Baptist Church and always looked forward to helping with Upwards basketball each winter. He was involved with Baptist Men's Association and helped with hurricane relief. He loved helping anyone in need and sharing his faith in Jesus. He enjoyed beach trips, golfing and spending time with his family. He coached youth baseball, basketball and football. Greg was an avid UNC Tarheel fan. He once chased Dean Smith after a basketball game to give him an endless supply of Gold Toe socks and was rewarded with a signed team poster. He had an enormous sense of humor and loved to joke and tease his friends and family. He was a beloved husband, devoted father and proud "Papa" to his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Barber Martin of the home, son Gregory Britt Martin (Amy) of Durham; son Matthew Webb Martin (Jessica) of Burlington; grandchildren Jackson Thales Martin (LeeAnn) of Durham; Liam Alexander Martin of Burlington; Jayden River Martin of Burlington; sisters Cindy Martin Thumberger (Greg) of Hamilton, Ohio; Michelle Martin of Greensboro; sister-in-law Emily Tran Martin of Houston, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews; bonus grandchildren Luke and Sam Manchester; numerous bonus "sisters" and "brothers" he came to love thru work and community. Greg was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Billy Randall Martin of Houston, Texas.
A memorial service to celebrate Greg's life will be held at Harvest Baptist Church on Saturday, November 15th at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Harvest Baptist Church.
