Gregory Ribar Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Elmhurst Community Funeral Home - The Ahlgrim Chapel on Mar. 13, 2024.
Gregory Alan Ribar, age 59, passed away suddenly on March 6th, 2024. Beloved son of George and the late Beverly Ribar, loving husband of Marcia. Cherished father of Ellen (Jonathan Feltham) and Jackson Ribar (Suzanne Osborne) and grandfather of Dylan. Dearest brother of Geoffrey (Yoshiko) Ribar and Heather (Bellew) McManus. Fond uncle of Justin, Amy (Fernando Espino Casa) and Ryan Ribar, and Lauren, Jennifer and Sean McManus. Best friend to fur baby, Sophie.
Greg was born in Royal Oak, Michigan and grew up in Toledo and Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and earned his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago. He met Marcia while working on his MBA, and they married in December 1988. Greg owned and operated Amethyst Corporation for much of his career, providing IT consulting to businesses and continued to work in the IT field until his passing. Greg was a loyal University of Michigan football fan, and an avid skier. He transferred his enthusiasm for skiing and sports to Ellen and Jack. Greg set aside his loyalties to U of M and was very proud of his son Jack for earning a degree from Michigan State University's School of Packaging. Ellen will begin her career as a pediatric hospitalist this summer at Children's Hospital Colorado, of which Greg was exceptionally proud. His most recent pride and joy was his 11-month-old grandson, Dylan. Greg was known for always wearing uniquely patterned dress shirts, and will be missed for his goofy sense of humor and political commentary.
A celebration of life will be held to honor Greg on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Elmhurst Community Funeral Home – THE AHLGRIM CHAPEL, 567 S. Spring Rd. Elmhurst, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Children's Hospital Colorado.
