Gregory Rowe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J. Nelson Rigby Funeral Home, Inc. - Media on Dec. 9, 2024.
Gregory D. Rowe, 74 aka Moogar, Woody, Hummingbird, March 4, 1950 – December 4, 2024
Father, Brother, Artist, Marine who lived his life on his own terms while the rest of us watched in awe and sometimes shock. To know Greg was to witness uniqueness.
A long-time resident of Delaware and Chester counties, Greg will be missed dearly by family, friends, and the many animals he insisted on feeding from his back deck overlooking his little slice of pond in Kennett Square. Remembered fondly as a bit of a Tarzan and Rambo, his strength went beyond just his physicality. A Garnet Valley Alumni, he was proud to have served his country as both a merchant marine on the medical ship 'Hope', and as a combat Marine during the Vietnam War.
Greg, a woodworker, was a true lover of our natural world and Native American culture, as evidenced through his beautiful artwork: furniture, jewelry, pyrography. His unique crafts have been collected by many in the area and he was generous in donating his art for local charity and the historic society.
In his hometown of Glen Mills, Greg could often be found working with Rudy at the Newlin Grist Mill. He loved the restoration projects that showcased his many talents. He was later a long-time employee of the Haskell Farm, in Chadds Ford, where he truly found "home" in the people and lovely surroundings, which included a lot of time spent at Hank's Place restaurant.
Greg is survived by his daughter, Sarah; brother, Guy; sister, Gwen; and numerous cousins and friends that meant the world to him. He was blessed later in life to be cared for by Dean Sarah Walter-Lafferty and her family, who made enormous efforts in caring for his well-being and keeping him connected to family, friends, and alumni. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring 2025. Condolences:jnelsonrigbyfh.com
