Gregory Stancil Obituary
Gregory Alan Stancil passed away unexpectedly on May 17, 2025, at the age of 60. His family is shocked and saddened by his sudden death, and finds solace only in knowing he departed this world on his beloved late Grandmother Gertie Stancil's birthday weekend.
Born on March 20, 1965 to Ray and Rebecca Boone Stancil, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Greg moved to Wilmington, NC in 1973. He graduated from New Hanover High School in 1984. Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca Stancil. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Jennifer, and their children, Taylor, age 17, and Fletcher, age 14. Greg also leaves behind his father, Ray Stancil, and wife Jacky, of Franklin, Indiana.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Greg began working in the TV and Film Industry in Wilmington. For 40 years, he worked on countless projects as a driver or picture car coordinator, including King Kong Lives, Collision Course, The Hudsucker Proxy, Dawson's Creek, Under the Dome, and The Summer I Turned Pretty. He often traveled the country to work on shows, including to Iowa in 1995, where he met Jennifer while filming Harvest of Fire.
Growing up at the beach, Greg was drawn to the ocean and spent many early morning fishing trips in his boat, named "Becky B" after his mom. He also loved taking a trip to Masonboro Island to swim and explore with his family. Determined to ensure his children would continue this tradition, Greg taught them how to captain the boat at an early age. We are grateful for Greg's wisdom and knowledge, and that he dedicated himself to passing it on to his children. Nothing made Greg happier than being a father. Taylor and Fletcher were the absolute lights of his life.
Sundays were for football and chili, a tradition he enjoyed sharing with his children as they grew. A lifelong Washington Redskins fan, Greg even named both his children after Redskins players. He experienced great pride and joy watching his son Fletcher play football.
Greg's gentle nature with animals turned him into a magnet for stray cats, who sought safety and love in his care. He was never without a cat by his side in life. Furball and Stormy miss him very much.
A music lover, Greg was always listening to something, from 70s sounds to movie soundtracks. He even enjoyed listening to Taylor Swift alongside his cherished daughter, Taylor. Many guitars hang on the wall in Greg's home, but no instrument was more loved than his StingRay bass. Greg's journey from this earthly world was no doubt accompanied by the sounds of Kiss.
A celebration of Greg's life will be held at a later date, details are forthcoming.
Jennifer, Taylor, Fletcher, Ray, and Jacky are deeply grateful for the acts of kindness and thoughtfulness, and the outpouring of love and support they have received.
