Gretchen Nadine Lewis

Our beloved, elegant, sharp dressing, loving daughter, sister, auntie and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Hartford Hospital at the tender age of 64. Born in Hartford, Connecticut to Mrs. Gracie Lewis and the late Mr. Luther Edward Lewis, Sr., on September 29, 1961. Gretchen is the baby of five (5) other siblings, and she loved that position. Her loving mother being her best, best friend and Gretchen was honored to be called the baby by her mother. Gretchen was a style fashionista who kept her hair, nails and feet together at all times. She always kept a smile and loved everyone. Even when she was hurt by people she cared about, she still loved them and would speak to them because she held no malice in her heart. She loved to play cards with her buddies on Friday nights. Because of her big heart and great sense of humor, she was the life of the party. This woman of style loved black and white. Those were her colors. Her other love was collecting cows. No not the real ones. She collected cow statues, figurines and items that had cow print and patterns. If you knew Gretchen you would often hear her favorite words, "Its Ok, I'm Ok", she would also say "my sister Diane birthed the twins, but they were hers". She was known as a great, wonderful, loving auntie! As a retired caregiver in a group home, she was gentle and compassionate to each resident. Early in her career she worked in various doctor offices. Along with Gretchen's mother, Gracie Lewis, she leaves to cherish her memory; loving sister, Stephanie Diane Johnson, loving brother, Luther E. Lewis, Jr. Mrs. Gracie, Diane and Luther were her caregivers before she was hospitalized in October. Sister, Lawanda Williams (Richard) North Carolina; Sonya Sims and brother, Clifford Jones of Connecticut; 10 nieces, 7 nephews, 3 great nephews, loving Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Howard Smalls, Sarah and Donald Lipscomb. Besides her loving father Luther Edward Lewis, Sr., Gretchen was predeceased by 3 brothers, Dennis and Aaron Lewis, Johnny Clark and brother-in-law, Douglas Johnson, who she adored and vice versa.
