Gudrun Turner Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 10, 2025.
Gudrun Turner of Mashpee passed away on September 4, 2025 and was 88 years old. She was born in Falun Sweden, on October 10, 1936 to the late Claes and Signe Sjokvist of Gustafs Sweden.

Gudrun was raised and educated in the beautiful part of Sweden called Darlana. She moved to the United States in 1960 where she married her first husband in New Canaan, CT. and had three beautiful children Chris, Peter and Monica. She spent 35 years in the health care industry in Sweden and Connecticut, where she advanced from RN Nurse/Counselor to a Public Relations Director to program director in Silver Hill and in Danbury Hospital. While in New Canaan, she focused on outreach and education and was one of the founders of "New Canaan Cares."

Three years after she divorced in 1979, she met the "Love of her life", Deane Turner and they were married in New Milford, CT. in 1984. Gudrun and Deane lived on Candlewood Lake until 1995, when they transferred to Clearwater, FL.

Gudrun loved gardening, knitting, cooking and decorating their homes. She and Deane loved traveling, making several trips back to Sweden and trips all over Europe, Australia, China and Thailand. Gudrun loved music and theater. She was an incredible piano player and loved to entertain family and friends.

In 2000, they moved to Mashpee on Cape Cod. They became active in growing the Mashpee Congregational Church and the Cape Cod Union Carbide Retiree Club. Gudrun was active in the Mashpee Women's Club. One of Gudrun's greatest joys was spending time with her six children, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild, both on the Cape and at their homes all over the country.

A loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. She had a special way of touching the lives of those she held near and dear. Everyone loved her radiant smile and caring disposition, which displayed the warmth of her soul and being.

She is survived by her brother Goran Sjokvist in Sweden; her four children; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Everyone who knew her loved her, and she will be sorely missed but remembered.

A Celebration of Life service for Deane & Gudrun Turner will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Mashpee Congregational Church (MCC), 259 Shore Drive, Mashpee, MA 02649. A reception will follow the service at MCC.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances in their memory may be made to the Mashpee Congregational Church, PO Box 1796, Mashpee, MA 02649.
