Guillermo Carrasco, loving known as Willie by all, passed away August 12th, 2024, only a few days short of his 80th birthday. Willie’s passion and love for soccer lead him to lead an amazing life after years of dedication to the game he loved most. He started playing at the age of just two in his hometown of Santiago, Chile. That hard work paid off when he was selected to play for the Chilean Olympic team in 1964. After migrating to the United States in 1970, he went on to play professional soccer with the Cleveland Cobras and the Cleveland Stars. “He plays the game with his heart!” expressed one of his coaches.
His ambition grew and inspired him to open NC Soccer in Hudson, Oh with his partner Gary Nawraki. Moving on to open another complex, NorthCoast Premier Soccer, in Lodi. He was a beloved coach to many team members of the Hudson Explorers HS Varsity as well as Walsh, St Vincent St. Marys and a time for the Canton Invaders. All leading him to be inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame in Columbus, Oh in 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Brown Carrasco (married 53 years), and his children: Moises, Orlando (wife Christy) and Brianna. He was a proud grandfather to his four sweet grandchildren: Cayley, Coby, Chase & Carter.
Willie will be greatly missed and remembered by all. Services are private for his family. A celebration of his life will be announced at a future date.
