Guisande Jose Alfred

Jose Guisande, 87, West Tampa native, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Tampa on September 23, 1937, Jose was the beloved son of Modesto and Juanita Guisande and was a lifelong resident of the Tampa Bay area. A graduate of Jefferson High School (Class of 1957), Jose went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army.
Jose led a life of quiet dignity and strength, working as a butcher and warehouse associate before retiring. Known for his strong work ethic and generous heart, he left a lasting impression on everyone he met. But to those who knew him best, Jose was so much more than his occupations. He was a storyteller, a creative soul, and a constant source of warmth and wit. Generous with his time and resources, Jose was the kind of neighbor who never hesitated to help others.
Affectionately known to many as "Indian Rocks Joe," he found his greatest joy near the Gulf, casting a line from the shores of Indian Rocks Beach, watching the tide roll in and enjoying sunsets with friends and family nearby. He expressed his creative side through painting and tinkering with projects in his workshop, finding joy in working with his hands and making things for others.
Jose cherished his roots and enjoyed visiting cousins and their families in Spain, where he strengthened bonds that crossed oceans and generations. He had a strong appreciation for family, heritage, and simple joys. His warmth and character touched all who knew him. He will be dearly missed and remembered always.
Preceded in death by parents Modesto and Juanita Guisande. He is survived by his loving sister, Mary Ann Acosta (John), nieces, Cheri Sleeper (Brent, deceased) & sons, James Sleeper (Rachelle, son Dexter) & Paul Sleeper (April, sons David & Mason), Christina Acosta (John Stevens), & many cousins.
The family is deeply grateful to Jose's devoted caregiver, Elly, who assisted him and was a trusted friend.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Take a Kid Fishing Inc., or simply take a moment to enjoy the beach in Jose's memory.

There will be a gathering to celebrate Jose "Joe" on July 12th at 7:30 pm on Indian Rocks Beach (10th Avenue access).
