After a valiant struggle with his health, Gurney Milton Parker Jr.,73, transitioned to his heavenly home on August 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends at Obici Hospital. Milton was born on November 16, 1951, in Portsmouth, VA, to the late Gurney and Rena Lucille Mullen Parker. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his uncle, John Mullen, and brother, Morris Parker.

Milton received his early education in the Portsmouth Public School System and graduated in 1970 from the historic I.C. Norcom High School. Milton had a very strong work ethic. He held several jobs in his life's journey.

He began his work experience working alongside his father at Privette's Grocery Store. He was a dedicated, hardworking young man. He worked at several stores throughout the Tidewater area, just to name a few: Big Starr, Colonial Store, Belo, and Fresh Pride. He managed several hotels, worked at AMCS Flowers, and at LPR transportation. Milton was appointed Magistrate in the City of Portsmouth by the Honorable Judge Johnny Morrison. He always worked until his health began to fail.

He accepted Jesus as his personal savior at a young age. Not only was he active in church, but he was also active in his community. He was a former member of Third Baptist Church under Pastor Joe B. Fleming and served on the Martin Luther King Steering Committee. He later changed his membership to First Baptist Church, Elm Ave., under Pastor Gregory Thomas, where he was involved in several ministries.

Milton was known for his heart of gold. His life was one of love, laughter, and connection. He found joy in cheering on his favorite team- The Dallas Cowboys.

To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he always seemed larger than life. It was not just his physical stature that made him great, but the overwhelming love he possessed and displayed that made him the gentle, affectionate, and kind man he was. No matter what circumstances or challenges others faced, Milton had the unique ability to find goodness and happiness in every situation.

Milton will surely be missed by all who loved him, especially his survivors, his daughters, Latriecia Powell (Bobby) and Shaquilla Vaughan (Aston); Latriecia's mother, Cynthia Parker; sons, Morris Jordan (Miketha) and Randolph Joyner (Tabitha); grandchildren, Jazmyn Parker, Jayla Bullock, Imani Joyner, and Jayanti Morgan; great-grandchildren, Ayla Ferebee; special Friend, Vicki Keeton, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws, and all of who he heartly loved.

Milton's warmth, humor and unwavering love for those around him will be deeply missed. His memory will continue to bring light and laughter to those who were blessed to be a part of his life.

So very sorry on your loss. Milton and Vickie were neighbors of mine. They were like family. Praying for peace and comfort and Milton will be forever your guardian angel.
