Gus John Reres, peacefully passed on Monday, March 25 2024. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Kathleen Antoinette (Samataro) Reres. Gus is survived by his brother Stephen Reres, and predeceased by his sisters Catherine Photopoulos and Bessie Moumas. He was a devoted husband, faher, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. His surviving children Catherine (Terence O'Leary) and Christina (Michael Farrell); his granddaughter Jennifer (Phil Morgan), and great grandchildren Thomas and Julia; as well as his many nieces and nephews treasured their times spent together. Nono also leaves behind his beloved goddaughter, Connie Kahrilas (Harry Bandy). Gus enjoyed talking and debating about finances. Theses conversations will be missed.
Gus was born Konstantinos John Reres in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but he was always known as Gus. His father, John Reres and mother Sophie (Papondoniou) Reres set their roots in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and later in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Gus was the oldest of four siblings, born September 4, 1929. By the time he was six years old, his parents uprooted for a while to make a living and be by family in their homeland of Aliveri, on the island of Evia, Greece. They lived in Greece for about ten years before returning to Atlantic City. Later on, Gus would be proud to tour, and share with his young family, the beauty of southern Greece where he spent his youth growing up.
Gus served in the United States Marine Corps from November 5, 1946 to November 16, 1949 and received an honorable discharge. Gus's Marine buddy, George Samataro, invited Gus to their family Thanksgiving Day dinner where Gus met George's sister Kathleen (Kay). Gus was twenty-two and Kay was eighteen when they were wed on November 2, 1952. They lived in South Jersey where he worked as a plumber and pipefitter for Local Union 322 in Winslow, NJ. They raised their family and remained married for sixty-nine years.
Gus's faith, family and friends were of upmost importance to him. Over time, he developed a fond friendship with Snowy (therapy dog), and her handler, Bill Whitman, who were there to give him support. As a member of St. Barbara's Greek Orthodox Church, Gus embraced the tight bonds with his Kali Parea friends.
We will eternally cherish our loving memories and be forever grateful!
