Guy Keys Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Sep. 26, 2022.
Guy Dudley Keys, Jr, age 69 of Oklahoma City, passed away from this life to begin his eternal life in Heaven on September 20, 2022. He was born on August 6, 1953 to Guy and Mona (Harrison) Keys in Henryetta, Oklahoma. He grew up in Henryetta, having a wonderful childhood full of adventure and making lifelong friends.
After graduating from Henryetta High School, he attended Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College in Moore, where he received a BA in Theology. Guy earned a Master of Divinity degree from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 1986 he received his commission into the US Army as an officer in the Army National Guard. He served as a chaplain with the Guard for 13 years.
Guy had an incredible work ethic. From the time he was old enough to have a paper route, he worked. His family joked often that there wasn't a job that he hadn't done. He worked as a 4th Grade teacher, a minister to several Free Will Baptist Churches, an instructor at City College of Norman, OK, and as an Advertising & Promotion Coordinator for CMI Corporation among other things. But, the work he was most proud of was the 29 years of service with Thunderbird Youth Challenge Program. Guy was there from day one of the Academy, first as Director of Counseling and then as a Regional Coordinator and Recruiter. During that time he positively impacted the lives of thousands of at-risk Oklahoma youth.
Guy loved to travel, especially to the mountains. He loved nothing more than hitting the road, trailer in tow, with his wife Jami and their dog Phoebe and heading for the hills. He had a special affinity for the Tetons and Yellowstone. He loved photography, flying his drone, learning new things, and riding a bike- for several years a Harley, most recently, an Electric Bike. He enjoyed making memories with family and became convinced over this past year that it was one of the most important things he could do.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Mona Keys.
Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Jami; his children, Nathan Keys (Tiffany) of Helena, MT, Alex Keys (Deirdre) of El Reno, OK, Caroline George (Shawn) and Michael Krein of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren- Bear and Liberty Keys, Kyler and Zenni George; his sister Debra Keys (Dodie) of Norman, OK; his beloved canine companion Phoebe and numerous extended family members and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 1st at 10 am at Lynlee Mae Chapel and Event Center 507 E Main St, Moore OK. John M Ireland & Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements- 120 S Broadway Ave, Moore OK.
