It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gale Watts (G.W.) Hurd, age 83 of Mascot, TN originally from Hancock County, TN. Gale, a retired cattle farmer and former (49 year) employee of General Shale Brick, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gale & Bessie Hilton Hurd, brothers Kyle, Hubert, and infant sister Bobbie Jean. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 60 years Nancy Morton Hurd, his two children Tanna (Brad) Nicely & Mark (Amanda) Hurd. His sisters Irene Guinn of Knoxville, Betty Guinn of Clinton and his baby sister Nancy Murrell of Seymour, TN. Special nephews Ronnie & Dwight Hurd. Close friends Rusty McCroskey & Amy Price. Several nephews, nieces, neighbors, friends.

G.W.'s life was defined by his dedication to his family. He found joy in spending time with his loved ones, cherishing every moment shared together. His passion for farming was evident in the way he nurtured the land and instilled the value of hard work in his children. He epitomized the phrase "man of integrity and honor." His word was golden; his compassion sparkled and impacted those around him. He never met a stranger and always treated many of his guests with a meal or nugget of wisdom.
