Manchester - Gwendolyn B. Darling, 95, died surrounded by her family, at Villa Crest Nursing and Retirement Center on May 12, 2014. She was born on November 28, 1918 in Monroe, ME, the daughter of Lester and Avis (Emery) Bailey. She graduated from Farmington Teachers College in Maine and taught at several area schools before moving to Massachusetts. She worked as a researcher for the law firm Tompson & Tompson of Boston for ten years. Gwen and her husband, Robert F. Darling, raised their family in Melrose and were active members of the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church throughout the forty years they lived there. After Bob's death in 1999, Gwen moved to the Meetinghouse at Riverfront, in Manchester NH. Her family greatly appreciates the many kindnesses and loving care she received throughout the four years she has lived at Villa Crest Gwen is survived by two daughters, Pamela Trainor and her husband James of Auburn, and Patricia Darling Amirault and her husband John Amirault of Groton, MA. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jason Trainor of Boston, Caitlin Trainor and her husband Michael Siopis of Northwood, Daniel Amirault and his fiancee Stevie Sellers of Bellevue, Washington, Michael Amirault of Boston, and Catherine Amirault of Groton, MA. Memorial Gathering will be held at the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover St, Manchester on Saturday from 10AM to 12PM with a celebration of her life at 10:30 in the funeral home chapel. Private burial will be at Groton Cemetery, Groton, MA. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Gwendolyn's memory can be made to the Villa Crest Retirement Center, 1276 Hanover St, Manchester, NH 03104, please specify for the Memory Care Unit.
