Gwendolyn was born on August 24, 1935, in Butler County, Missouri, to the late Gwyn and Neta (Ennis) Thompson. On January 2, 1954, she married the love of her life, Lewis Kirkpatrick, at the Bristol Road Church of Christ. It was the beginning of a beautiful journey that would span 71 years filled with love, laughter, and companionship. Gwen worked as a secretary at General Motors – Flint Chevrolet for over nine years before retiring in 1963. Her heart, however, was always centered around faith and family. A devoted member of the Bristol Road Church of Christ, she served as the church secretary for over 20 years and taught children's Bible study. In later years, she continued her walk of faith as a dedicated member of the Swartz Creek Church of Christ, where she worshiped for over 25 years. Gwen was incredibly talented when it came to quilting, sewing, and crafting - creating thoughtful, handmade pieces that became treasured keepsakes for her family. She was also a wonderful cook and baker, known especially for her delicious Sunday dinners where everyone looked forward to her fried chicken, cheesy potatoes, and apple crisp. Gwen found joy in the little things too, like playing Mexican Train with close friends Dan and Sandy Bradburn. Family was the center of Gwen's world where she was lovingly known as "Nonnie" a perfect mix of sass and class, with a heart full of love. She poured her heart into loving her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy. Her love was felt by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
Surviving are: Loving husband, Lewis Kirkpatrick; Daughters: Michele Smith, and Dena Herald; Son, Michael (Kristin) Kirkpatrick; Grandchildren: Michael Ross Smith, Beth Ann Harper, Erika (Yacoub) Iseid, Joshua Kirkpatrick, Elesha Kirkpatrick, and Jourden Herald; Great grandchildren: Greyson and Nazir Iseid; Brother, Jeffery (Christa) Thompson; Many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members and dear friends. Gwen was also preceded in death by: Granddaughter, Elise Kirkpatrick; Sister, Marilyn Webb. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Betty "Bug" for all her help, love, and care for Gwen.
