Gwendolyn Ruth Garnett Thomas joined her family in Heaven on June 27, 2024.
Gwen was born January 22, 1928 to Dr. O. D. and Annie Ruth (Fisher) Garnett in Houston, Texas. She attended Lamar High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Romance Languages from Rice University in 1951.
While living in Houston, Gwen was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she made many long-time friendships. She enjoyed many trips to England and other parts of Europe as well as Mexico. She was a long-time member and Past President of Women of Rotary. The family have been members of First Presbyterian Church in Wichita Falls, TX. for many years. They have many fond memories of Dr. Earle Crawford and Dr. Isaac Butterworth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas, and her parents. She is survived by her four children, Julianne Thomas Downs of Dallas, James Garnett Thomas (Ramona) of Wichita Falls, Jonathan Edward Thomas of San Antonio, and Leslie Diane McWilliams (Paul) of Salado. Also surviving are longtime family friends: Vivian Kirkpatrick, Margaret Humphreys-Bonner, Kennith Alan Burross.
There will be a visitation with the family on Sunday, June 30, 2024 in Lunn;s Colonial Funeral Home Chapel from 2:00 – 4:00 PM..
The family deeply appreciates the care that was given at Perkins-Prothro Health Care and Healing Hands Hospice.
