Gypsy Lee Yount Alexander, 88, died Sunday, December 1, 2024 in Fernandina Beach following a long illness. Born in High Point, NC to Larry Yount and Margaret Chandler, Gypsy was raised in Reidsville, NC and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She later moved to Florida and settled at the Jacksonville Beaches in 1970. She was the wife of Thomas Hawe "Tommy" Hulihan, Jr., who predeceased her.
Gypsy was an avid tennis player at Selva Marina Country Club and had a lifelong love of fishing, a passion that she shared with her late husband. Although she wanted to be a journalist, she began selling real estate in the mid-1970s and discovered her true calling. Gypsy's long real estate career included stints at Stockton Land Company and Ponte Vedra Club Realty, but she also had brief detours selling real estate advertising for the Ponte Vedra Recorder and Jacksonville Today magazine. One of the highlights of her life and career was joining her boss and dear friend, Jimmy Stockton, and several colleagues on a trip to Africa in 1986. Gypsy was a member of Christ Church in Ponte Vedra Beach; a member of the Ponte Vedra Beach Chamber of Commerce, where she served as board president and vice president; and was a member of Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach.
In addition to her husband, Gypsy was preceded in death by two of her children, Chan Alexander (Dan Prieto) and Danny Alexander (Marissa Weightman); a half-sister, Linda Graham (U.J. Graham); and a half-brother, Ken Yount. She is survived by her three children: Tom Rankin of Ponte Vedra Beach, Jay Alexander (Mark Hampton) of New York City, and Ginny Alexander of Jacksonville; a sister, Sandra Barkley (Robert) of Youngstown, FL; three half-brothers: Larry "Coley" Yount, Jr., John Yount, and Danny Yount, all of Reidsville, NC; three stepsons: Tommy Hulihan (Kelly), Michael Hulihan (Tina), and Scott Hulihan (Tracy); 15 grandchildren: Luke Marsden (Connie); Colin Alexander (Rebekah Brewer); Bryce, Brittany, and London Alexander; Sierra Weightman; Thomas and Mack Hulihan; Michaela and Julianna Hulihan; Hayden, Cole, and Paige Hulihan and Sydney and Ryan Hofstetter; and a great-grandson, Avery Marsden.
A celebration of life will be planned for a future date. Gypsy was proud that all three of her children gave back through their work for various nonprofit organizations. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to either K9s for Warriors or Starlings Volleyball, USA.
