Hal Murray Herrington

Hal, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. He was a native and resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. For 30 years Hal worked as a Facility Services Director in the Department of Health and Hospitals in Baton Rouge. He was a seasoned sailor in his spare time. Hal sailed through Lake Pontchartrain and the Gulf of Mexico. Once, Hal sailed through Hurricane Juan just to bring a boat back to his boss and his story was shared in Sail Magazine. He stayed fit throughout the years and would often ride up to 50 miles a day on his bicycle. Hal was also known to have a wonderful and deep voice and shared his love of music through singing, playing piano, and playing guitar. He was an amazing person who will be forever missed.
Hal is survived by his domestic partner and caregiver of over 30 years, Brenda Herrington; daughter, Jan Marie Spillman; step-daughter, Laura Morris; son, Hal Murray Herrington Jr.; as well as several grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his grandson, Richard "Ricky" Fowler Jr.; father, Hugh "Alton" Herrington; mother, Genevive Smiley; and brother, Don Alton Herrington.
A cremation will take place with private family services to follow.
