Born on March 5, 1937, in Salinas, CA., Hardy attended the local elementary school and Salinas High School where he excelled in running track. He went on to study architecture and was a member of the track team at Cal Berkeley.
Hardy spent his career working for local government agencies and for the Salinas School District.
Hardy met the love of his life, Judi, at Salinas High, where they were both students. They were married in 1958 and shared 63 years of marriage. Together they built a family and life filled with love, joy, travel, and lasting memories.
In 2010, Hardy and Judi relocated to Atascadero, CA where they continued their love of entertaining family and friends.
Hardy knew no stranger. His outgoing, friendly spirit endeared him to those who met and knew him, creating a legacy of kindness, generosity, and loyal friendship.
Hardy is survived by all three of his children - Kelly Nielsen, Kristi Romero, and Greg (Brenda) Nielsen.
Hardy treasured his time with his four grandchildren, Joseph (Myra) Romero, Esteven Romero, Claire Nielsen, and Kylie Nielsen-Thomas. He loved being their Pa and cheering them on in their various activities and sports.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends traveling, being at the family vacation home in South Lake Tahoe, houseboating and fishing on Lake Shasta, woodworking in his shop.
He was deeply loved by his wife, children, grandkids and friends and his presence will be deeply missed.
We couldn't have asked for a better parent, father-in-law, grandparent, or friend. We will miss him every day, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.
Hardy was preceded in death by his parents, sister and wife, Judi.
A memorial service will be held at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel 41 San Luis Street, Salinas, Ca. 93901 on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 1:00pm. There will be a celebration of life following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
