James Harley Oldham, age 89, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in Olney, Texas. Public visitation will be on Monday, March 2, 2026, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Lunn Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 2, 2026, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home with Dr. Chad Edgington, pastor of First Baptist Church-Olney, officiating. Burial will follow at Keeter Cemetery in Elbert, Texas, under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.
Harley was born on January 18, 1937, in Olney, Texas, to James Hubert and Margaret Christine (Hargrove) Oldham. Harley attended Elbert Elementary and Middle School and Throckmorton High School, where he was quite the athlete and straight “A” student. He entered the Army in 1958 with basic training at Fort Bliss. He was awarded a medal for his precision as a marksman and served in the Army Reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1964.
Harley was a prosperous farmer, stubborn to a fault, but always with a loving, caring heart for his family. Harley was a well-respected pitcher with a mean fastball for the Olney Merchants softball team. He enjoyed a rousing game of dominoes and the roll of the dice, and he had a passion for dancing at “The Zone”. Harley took dedicated care of his mother after the sudden death of his father in 1967 until her own passing in 2007.
Harley lived a very full life with deep love for family. He will always be cherished and dearly missed.
Harley is preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers-in-law, Glen Stout and James Bailey, and his nephew Bobby Glen Stout.
He is survived by his two sisters: Annette Franklin of Throckmorton, TX, and Barbara “Bobbie” Bailey of Olney, TX. His nieces: Lynna (Stout) Ray and husband Charles of Fort Stockton, TX; Cindy (Stout) Bentch and husband Ron of Columbia, Missouri, and Mindy (Bailey) Cuba and husband Matt of Wichita Falls, TX; and his nephew: Jim Bob Bailey and wife Sheila of Graham, TX, along with numerous great nephews and nieces.
