Mr. Harmon Lowell Speight, of Tallapoosa, GA, passed away peacefully June 11, 2025 after a beautiful life of 100 years. He was born February 26, 1925 in Tallapoosa to the late Alexander Speight and Sarah Davis Speight. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Jane Swafford Speight; daughters, Sheila Roberts and Susan O'Neill; brother, Robert Speight; and sisters, Blanch Johnson, Evelyn Pruitt, Mary Clay, and Clara Bentley.
Harmon proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He served on the ship, USS Maloy, which supported operations on D-Day off the coast of Omaha Beach in Normandy. Upon his return home he received a welding certificate and started Speight Welding.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Paul Roberts, Jessica Roberts, and Katelyn O'Neill; great granddaughter, Alix Roberts; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 12:00PM in the Miller Funeral Home Dogwood Chapel with Bro. Jeff Layton officiating. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be Paul Roberts, Charles Speight, Bobby Parker, and Benny Parker. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the United States Navy providing military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:00PM.
