Harold William Carlstrom, 90, of Alexandria, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, at Knute Nelson Care Center. Born on May 16, 1934, on the family farm in Urness Township, Harold was the son of Frans and Rose (Sacarias) Carlstrom. As one of seven children, Harold grew up working hard on the farm, shouldering great responsibility after the loss of his father at just 14 years old.
Harold’s life was defined by dedication, love, and faith. In 1956, he married his true love, Carolyn Foslien, and together they raised six children, teaching them the value of hard work, kindness, and the importance of family. Their home was full of laughter, shared moments, and the joy of doing everything together—creating lasting memories from working on the farm to visiting relatives and friends.
Harold worked for 13 years as an engineer at Arrowood Resort in Alexandria, where he earned the respect and admiration of everyone he met. Even in retirement, Harold never slowed down. He took pride in his lawn, his cherished John Deere tractor, and in caring for his family, always putting others before himself.
Harold’s spirit will be remembered for his selflessness, his love for singing, and his unwavering faith. He was active in his church, singing in the choir and remaining deeply involved in his community. Though his health began to decline in late 2024, Harold’s concern for others never wavered. He brought comfort to those around him with his kind heart and joyful presence.
Harold leaves behind his beloved wife of 68 years, Carolyn; children: Vernon (Terri) Carlstrom, Douglas (Ellen) Carlstrom, Brian (KrissAnne) Carlstrom, Brenda (Jerry) Buse, Marcia (Phil) Warren, and Nancy (Steve) Wendland; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frans and Rose, and siblings: Harriet Johnson, Dorothy Halverson, Florence Rosenow, Grace Madson, Jane Connor, and Verl Carlstrom.
Harold’s legacy of faith, family, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
