Harold A Carpenter, 90, of Dover NH passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 19, 2024, after a courageous battle with many illnesses. He was born on May 26, 1934, in Derby, Vermont the son of the late Charles B. Sr. and Winnifred (Lemere) Carpenter. He grew up on a dairy farm in northern Vermont.
Harold attended Derby Academy where he met his wife, Lucille. After graduating in 1953, he enlisted into the Army, served in Berlin, Germany during the cold war and was honorably discharged in 1961. Harold and Lucille were married on July 12, 1958, and made their home in Montpelier, VT. In 1966, they moved with their 2 young daughters to
Dover, NH. He enjoyed gardening, and updating their home over the years, until they moved to a retirement apartment in 2019.
Harold was employed at the University of New Hampshire for 26 years where he worked in the maintenance department. He attended many UNH hockey games, keeping an eye on the compressors in the Snively Arena that kept the ice cool.
Harold was an outgoing man with a great sense of humor and an optimistic attitude. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Lucille visiting many states in the US, Canada, Spain, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia. He also enjoyed camping throughout his life. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, serving on several committees. He also served on the board of Wentworth Home for many years.
Harold was devoted to his family and is survived by his loving wife, Lucille, and daughters Diane Brown and husband James of Rochester, and Lori Carpenter of Derry. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jason Brown, and wife Anita of Plainville, Connecticut, Kevin Brown of Rochester, Marianna Tremblay of Concord, and Jonathan Tremblay of Lawrence, Kansas. Harold always said he had 3 wonderful grandsons and a princess. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Peter Brown and Allison Brown of Plainville, Connecticut, his brother Reginald of North Troy, Vermont and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers James, Charles Jr., and Dale Sr. Carpenter.
A memorial service will be conducted at St. John's United Methodist Church on Sunday September 29, 2024, at 2:00 pm. There will be a private interment of ashes at Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.
