HAROLD LEROY EWING, known to all as BUSTER, passed away on July 11, 2025 in Hospice House. He was born in Clay Township, South Bend, Indiana on March 6, 1950 to Leroy and Lois (Hale) Ewing. He is survived by his cat, Catty, and many brothers, sisters and cousins and many fond friends who took him to the races and the casino.

Buster was a staple in Clay Township always seen riding his bicycle or his moped on the streets around Clay High School. Back in the early days, Tony, from Potter's Mobil, made sure he had a police scanner mounted on his bike and he would beat the police and firemen to the dispatch scene even if it was 2 am. Buster was dubbed "the Sheriff of Clay Township" and he rode around making sure all the businesses were locked up at night and secure. If he really liked you he'd point his finger at you and tell you "you're fired". That was his highest compliment!

He was presented by Sheriff Redman with a special deputy badge on his 74th birthday which he wore with pride everywhere. Buster was thankful of always being included in "Shop with a Cop" at Christmas time where the County police took the time to escort him through the store to buy gifts.

The County officers, Firemen from Auten and Cleveland Road fire houses and Roseland Police will miss him greatly. He lived life to his fullest and loved and trusted the friends and family he had who were included in his life. Zahoran Funeral Home is handling all of the arrangements and no services are planned at this time

Oh Buster! How the world has lost such a bright light. We always knew we were in good hands and ready for laughs with you around. Mom really enjoyed it when you´d stop in for a visit. It brought her joy.

You are missed. Rest peacefully cousin

I moved to South Bend in 1989 when I was 7 years old and some of my first memories of South Bend included you Buster. From riding the bus to school and seeing you standing with the kids waiting for the bus to seeing you riding around on your bike. I´m going to miss honking and waving at you Buster! Keep watching over us all in Clay Township!

So sorry to see you go but Grandfather called and you had to go. You were always fun to talk to when I was getting my coffee at the gas station. You are a fond memory from my childhood too.
God´s speed until we meet again
