La Marque - Harold LeRoy Fattig Sr., fondly known as "Big H", passed away peacefully on August 15th, 2025, in Friendswood, Texas, at the age of 89.

Harold was born in Marion, Indiana on December 11, 1935, and moved to Galveston at the age of three. He was the oldest of five siblings born to Ralph and Loretta (Copsey) Fattig. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary and graduated from Kirwin High School in 1953 where he was drum major in the band.

After graduating, Harold met the love of his life, Joan Mahan, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church where she played the organ and he sang in the choir. They were married on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1956. Their devoted marriage of 69 years continues to be an inspiration for their children and grandchildren.

Possessing a strong work ethic, Harold began working at the age of 15, at Fred F. Hunter Printing & Office Supply, progressing from a delivery boy to learning every aspect of the business. In 1976, Harold and Joan established their own printing and stationery business in Galveston, Fattig Office Supply. The entire family worked in the family business, adding store locations in Texas City and Freeport.

Harold took an active part in church and community, serving on the parish council, as a lector, choir member, youth leader, and Little League and softball coach. Harold served as a proud Rotarian for over 40 years, serving as President of Galveston Rotary Club, District Governor of District 5910 and his club's Executive Secretary after retirement. Harold was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and truly embodied Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self."

He was a man of strength, integrity, warmth and humility with a clever sense of humor. He had a beautiful voice, a song in his heart and a whistle in his step.

Harold's life was most defined by love and gratitude - for God, Joan, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, family and friends. He was known for giving affectionate hugs and opening doors for everyone. Don't be surprised if he's holding the door into Heaven for you, with a smile and warm greeting, delaying his own entry so you can go first.

Harold is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Harold (Irene) Fattig Jr., Melanie (Joe) Gregory, Jeffrey (Tina) Fattig, David (Amber) Fattig, and Teri Fattig; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by two infant sons – John Fattig and John Curry Fattig.

Special thanks to the Morada Senior Living staff in Friendswood and to the Faith Community Hospice team that cared for our father.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 10:00, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque. A reception immediately following the funeral mass will be held at the Parish Hall.
