Harold Knowles Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tasker Funeral Home - Dover on Feb. 11, 2025.
Rollinsford, NH – Harold" Sonny" M. Knowles Jr., 84, of Rollinsford, NH, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at his home. He passed peacefully with family after a yearlong battle with cancer.
He was born on June 18th, 1940, in South Berwick, ME to Harold M. and Opal (McIntyre) Knowles and had lived all but 2 of his 84 years in Rollinsford. He was a graduate of Dover High School, class of 1958.
Sonny and his wife, Gail (Griffin) Knowles were married on November 23rd, 1960.
He was a loving husband and father to his family as well as neighborly friend to many people throughout his life. He was always happy and ready to help someone in need.
Sonny was also a hard worker all his life as he had his first job at age 11 (a local newspaper route). After graduating, Sonny worked at various local automobile dealerships over the years. He eventually worked for the UNH Motor Vehicle Service Dept for 21 years and retired from there in 2004. His retirement lasted two weeks when he secured a job with Hilltop Chevrolet where he worked right up until February 2024, retiring again at age 83. Sonny was a member of the First Baptist Church in South Berwick, and Eliot Baptist Church in Eliot, ME. Throughout his life he enjoyed and shared numerous activities with his family such as camping, square-dancing, snowmobiling, auto racing, vacationing to sunny Florida in the winter or visiting family in Canada during the summer. Later in life he really enjoyed summertime barbecues and Christmas gatherings with his family on those special occasions. Whenever he could, he would end every evening reading the local daily newspaper.
The family would also like to thank Cornerstone VNA Hospice, and especially Nurse Jamie, for all the compassionate and loving care provided to Sonny during his time under their care.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gail, their two sons: Rodney and his wife, Tamara, their children Skye and Clint, Richard and his sons Coleman and Trent and their mother Valerie, Sonny's brother Harry Knowles and wife Denise, nephews Eric and David, a niece Margie Lennon and nephew Robert Lennon, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Muriel (Knowles) Lennon and her husband Robert F. Lennon.
Services: a memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM on Tuesday, February 18th at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Avenue, Dover, New Hampshire. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 PM, also at Tasker Funeral Home immediately following the close of the visitation.
