Harold Bowen "Opie" Lavanway, 73 of Readsboro, VT died on Monday August 26, 2024 following an automobile accident in Readsboro.
He was born in North Adams, MA on June 8, 1951, a son of Harold Ervin Lavanway and Bessie "Earlene" (Bowen) Lavanway. He attended schools in Monroe Bridge and graduated from McCann Technical High School.
Harold was last employed by Excelsior/Crane Printing Company. Before that, he worked at Hunter Machine, Morrison Berkshire and Roberts Company Clothing Store.
He was a member of the Readsboro Baptist Church and the South Readsboro Community Club. Harold enjoyed radio-controlled cars and trucks. He served as volunteer firefighter for the town of Clarksburg.
His wife, was Linda L. (Bushee) Lavanway who died on November 19, 2011. They were married on May 6, 1972. Survivors include one grandson, Colton Lavanway of Dover, VT and two sisters, Sandra Goodermote of Monroe, MA and Alta Wood of Poland, ME. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Harold was predeceased by his son, Brian Jason Lavanway on May 10, 2018 and two sisters, Bernice Polucci and Myrna Harvey.
FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Harold "Opie" Lavanway will be Wednesday September 11, 2024 at 11:00 AM at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Monroe Fire Dept or the Readsboro Fire Dept in care of the funeral home. To add to the Book of Memories, please visit www.flynndagnolifuneralhomes.com.
