Harold Douglas Pitts passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 23, 2025, one day before his 69th birthday. Born and raised in Macon County, he was the son of the late Dovie and Edward Pitts.
In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by brother, Dwayne Pitts, sister, Carolyn Pitts Sanders and twin infant daughters.
Harold was a veteran of the US Army. He was a member at Morrison Presbyterian Church and had a strong relationship with the Lord.
Harold had bravely battled mental illness most of his adult life, facing many significant struggles, but his spirit and resilience was nothing short of inspiring. Beyond his illness, he was a loving son, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
Harold displayed many noteworthy talents. He could fix anything, from automobiles to electronics. He could build anything, write poetry, draw and play any musical instrument that he came in contact with. That all came so natural to him. Many times he could not freely apply his natural talents because of the burdens that his illness put on him, but he kept fighting with an incredible amount of bravery and stamina. He didn't always have the words to relate to other people, but he always had the best of intentions.
What rose to the top in Harold's life was the love he had for his children and grandchildren. He is survived by son, Nathan Pitts (Joelie) and daughter, Natosha Pitts (Jon), and five grandchildren, Karmyn Blount, Franklin Blount, Bryson Pitts, Noella Pitts and Natalie Giles. Surviving siblings are brothers, Gene, Marion, David and Glenn Pitts and sister, Patricia Pitts Bowling.
A funeral service will be held Friday, November 28, 2025, at 2:00 pm in the Grant Chapel at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm till 2:00 pm Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to help pay for the final expenses be made to Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, 105 W Main St. Franklin, NC 28734.
