Harold Self Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McNett Funeral Home - Andrews on May 29, 2024.
Harold "Rusty" Elton Self Jr., known to all as Rusty, passed away on May 27, 2024, in Andrews, TX, at the age of 63. Born on May 5, 1961, in Birmingham, AL, to Harold E. and Patsy R. Self. Rusty's life was a testament to the joy and love he brought to everyone he met.
Rusty's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and the simple pleasures that make life worth living. His love story began with Debi Self, whom he married on January 12, 1983, in Andrews, TX. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and the shared joy of raising their three daughters, Kerri Woodall and her husband Travis, Kimberly Sizemore and her husband Tom, and Mandy McCabe. Rusty's legacy continues through the lives of his seven grandchildren, who will carry forward his spirit of kindness and generosity.
He was a cherished brother to Beverly Patterson and her husband Robert, and Susan Dunn and her husband Earl. Rusty's life was further enriched by the love of his numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold E. and Patsy R. Self, his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. O.E. Self, and Mr. & Mrs. C.V. Cobb, along with numerous aunts and uncles.
Rusty's love for the outdoors was unmistakable. He relished every moment spent on the golf course, casting a line while fishing, or simply watching sports. His nickname "Rusty" was born on a family vacation in Panama City, Florida, a place that held a special significance for him since he first visited at the tender age of three months. It became a cherished vacation spot with his family that he continued to enjoy throughout his life.
More than just a man of interests, Rusty understood the importance of family and good friends. He took immense pride in his roles as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Rusty was a friend to all, whether he had known you for years or had just met you. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life was one of his most admirable traits.
Rusty's work history and association involvement were extensions of his character. He poured the same love and dedication into his professional life as he did into his personal life. Rusty's approach to life was simple: be kind, be generous, and always be there for those you care about.
As we bid farewell to Rusty, we do so with the knowledge that his impact on the world was as profound as the love he shared with us. His was a life well-lived, full of purpose, joy, and an abundance of love.

This dear man was the rock for my younger sister and someone I knew had her best interest in mind. Through the tuff times and the times, I think about with a smile. Walking the streets of Paris, on the plane before we landed, he took care of us all! He will be so missed this wonderful brother, husband, father, grandfather and proud to call a friend as well as a family member!
