Harold Walter Winkler, affectionately known as "Bud," passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, in Troy, Michigan at the age of 98.
Born on February 26, 1927, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Gustov and Myrtle Winkler, Bud was raised in McKeesport, where his strong work ethic and deep sense of duty took root early in life. At just 17 years old, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving aboard the USS Bivin. In 1948, Bud continued his commitment to his country by joining the U.S. Marine Corps.
In 1964, Bud married the love of his life, Lola, with whom he shared many wonderful years until her passing in June of 2010.
Bud worked for many years in maintenance at Masco Corporation in Taylor, Michigan, and later served faithfully as a longtime usher and custodian at Woodlawn Church of God. A proud veteran, he was an active member of the VFW in Royal Oak, Michigan. He also served a major role at the Royal Oak Senior Center.
Bud will be lovingly remembered by his stepchildren, Sharon Causey, Janet Peterson, and Thomas (Sharon) Robertson; his grandchildren, Rebecca (Bryan), Patrick (Annette), James (Whitney), Andrew (Alina), and Kelsey; and his great-grandchildren, Connor, Mackenzie, Leonardo, and Lila. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepson-in-law Byron Causey, his stepson Richard Robertson, and his brothers. While his family and friends mourn his passing, they take comfort in knowing that Bud is now reunited with his beloved Lola.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Gramer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main Street, Clawson, Michigan 48017. A burial will take place on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, MI 48442.
Bud's life was one of service, devotion, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Harold Walter "Bud" Winkler, please visit our Tree Store.
