Harriet "Louise" Carroll

MACKINAW – Harriet "Louise" Carroll of Mackinaw, passed away Friday, November 1, 2024, at Carle Health Proctor Hospital in Peoria. She was born September 4, 1934, on a farm in rural San Jose, Illinois, the daughter of Wilkie and Harriet (Gohler) Tammeus. She grew up upon the farm and graduated from San Jose High School in 1952. Louise married Stephen Arthur Carroll, Jr. on August 10, 1952 in San Jose and they resided in rural Mackinaw. She was proud of her farm chores and she began working at Caterpillar Tractor Company in 1952, where she worked until after starting a family. Then she and Steve started the Carroll Printing Co., offering The Mackinaw Buyer's Guide, the Tremont Shopper and many other custom printing services. Having the business in their home's basement allowed her to both work and care for her family. She later returned to Caterpillar for several more years retiring in 1989. Louise greatly enjoyed traveling with her family. She and Steve made it to all 50 states, cruise destinations and Europe. Surviving Louise are her husband of 72 years, Steve; two children, Sandra (Jim) Gunter of rural Kirkwood, IL and Steven (Patti) Carroll of rural Mackinaw; her grandchildren Kristi (Dan) Green (Emmy & Abby), Julie (Lance) Snodgrass (Rowyn, Laramie & Canaan), Tom (Jennifer) Carroll (Connor & Makenzie) and Nancy (Matt) Copple (Daniel & Elizabeth). She was proceeded in death by her parents, one sister, three brothers and their spouses, five nephews and one niece. Louise was a member of Mackinaw United Methodist Church in Mackinaw, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, with Pastor Jarrett Wells officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Mackinaw Township Cemetery in Mackinaw. Memorials may be made to her church's Youth Group at the Mackinaw United Methodist Church; Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Alliance or Make-A-Wish Foundation.
