Harriet Elaine Cole LaPointe

Harriet Elaine Cole LaPointe, 87, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at her home on December 9th from natural causes. Born on December 3, 1938, in Ellsworth, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Eva Cole.

Harriet graduated from R.W. Traip Academy in Kittery in 1957. She married the love of her life, Edwin L. LaPointe Jr., in 1959, beginning 66 years of partnership, laughter, and raising four lively boys in Kittery. After years devoted to her family, she went on to spend 45 dedicated years with the William Dennett Insurance Agency, where she formed friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Harriet had a joyful spirit and a love for simple pleasures - candlepin bowling, knitting, and visiting anyone and everyone she cared about. A true social butterfly, she never missed a chance to stop by for a chat or surprise someone with a visit. She kept her four boys in line with love, grit, and humor, and she adored her husband deeply. Her warmth and sparkle left lasting impressions everywhere she went.

She is survived by her brother, Lester R. Cole of New Mexico; her sons, David LaPointe and Tracy Thompson of North Berwick; Mark LaPointe and his partner, Dawn Johnson, of Sanford; Scott LaPointe and Tracy LaPointe of West Newfield; and Michael LaPointe of Portsmouth.

Harriet leaves behind a legacy of family she was incredibly proud of: grandchildren Mark LaPointe Jr., Travis LaPointe, Tyler and Megan LaPointe, Joey Thompson, Kayla Bragg, Darren LaPointe, and Connor LaPointe; and great-grandchildren Elina, Joseph, and Eva LaPointe; Jovie, Dane, and Blaire Bragg; and Cooper Thompson.

A celebration of Harriet's life will be planned at a later date, where family and friends can gather to share memories, laughter, and the joy she brought into so many lives.
