John Weeks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel - Portsmouth on Feb. 9, 2026.
John W. Weeks, 74 passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026 at home on the family farm in Greenland, NH. He was born February 28, 1951 in Portsmouth, NH to W. Richard Weeks Sr. and Marion (Holley) Weeks.

John attended Greenland Central School before graduating from Portsmouth High School in 1969. He went on to receive his Bachelor's degree in Business from the University of New Hampshire in 1973. He dedicated his life to agriculture, working at the Fairchild Dairy Teaching and Research Center in Durham, NH where he retired after 43 years.

John was as an active member of the community, serving on Greenland town board of selectman, budget committee, numerous Greenland Community Church committees, and as a 4-H volunteer.

John is survived by his wife of 40 years, Robin Lachut Weeks; his daughters Heather Ashley Weeks (Dylan) and Holley Weeks Ralston (Gregory); grandchildren Joshua and Claire; brother Robert Weeks (Dennis); niece Lisa (Weeks) Holden (Clayton); and cousins Cynthia (Weeks) Smith, Carolyn (Weeks) White, and Mary Dearborn. John is predeceased by parents William Richard Weeks Sr. and Marion Holley Weeks; brother William Richard Weeks Jr. and his wife Sherry Weeks.

John, alongside his wife and brothers, dedicated his life to being a good steward of the land and animals at Weeks Point Farm, a family farm dating back to 1698. He raised his two daughters to value family, hard work, and carrying on the legacy at Weeks Point. He was overjoyed that both Heather and Holley, along with Holley's husband and their children, moved back to the family homestead a couple of years ago. The family has shared in John's joy of making hay, splitting firewood, and weekly Sunday dinners. Grampa always had time to give the grandkids a tractor ride. John was an avid sports enthusiast, cheering on New England, Boston, and Virginia Tech teams. In retirement, John and Robin took time to travel, most recently exploring Ireland, the Grand Canyon, Pacific Northwest, and of course an annual trip to the Caribbean to escape New England winter. In the summer, their vacation escape was only a few feet away on the coast of Great Bay to catch a sunset over the water.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 13, 2026 at the Community Congregational Church of Greenland located at 4 Church Lane, Greenland, NH. A reception will follow at the Greenland Church Community Parish House located at 44 Post Road in Greenland, NH. Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening 2/12 from 4:00-6:00pm at the Parish House. Carpooling is encouraged. John will be buried in a private ceremony this spring at the family cemetery overlooking Great Bay and the hayfield.
