Harry Coffman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service - Bridgewater on Oct. 18, 2023.
Harry Dee Coffman, 72, of Dayton passed away October 17, 2023 at his home. He passed peacefully with his children by his side after a private fight with cancer. He was born May 9, 1951 in Harrisonburg, Virginia and was the son of the late Elvert Charles (E.C.) and Edna June Cromer Coffman.
Surviving are two children, Jason Charles Coffman and Jennifer Lynn Coffman, both of Dayton; mother and father-in-law, Edward and Charlotte Hopkins of Weyers Cave; brother-in-law, Stephen Hopkins of Fisher, West Virginia; a "son" by choice, Charles Miller of Franklin, West Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Harry was reunited with his wife, Sharon Kay Coffman, who proceeded him in death. They were married on July 25, 1981. Harry loved his wife and mentioned that he couldn't wait to be with her again.
He graduated from Turner Ashby High School in Dayton and grew up working on the family farm in Ottobine. From a young age, Harry learned the definition of work and what it meant to be a hard worker. He grew up feeding fat cattle and coon hunting with his daddy. He soon went on to work for Dayton Feeds and then became a successful self-employed seed corn and agribusiness salesman for over 50 years.
Harry and his son, Jason worked hand-in-hand on the family farm, raising Holstein replacement heifers. There's nothing more he wanted than to be working side-by-side with his son. Together, they were also self-employed painters, which Harry truly enjoyed- not only as a side job, but as a hobby.
He was a lifelong hound hunter from the age of five. His idea of a vacation was going to the mountains and running his hounds. He was proud of his Walker dogs and enjoyed sharing the sport with both of his children. He was very fond of a Walker hound and if you ever saw him with a Plott, you knew he had someone else's dog.
Pastors Dan Horning and Sarah Bailey will conduct a funeral service on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Clover Hill United Methodist Church. A graveside service will follow at Clover Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Harry's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Mephis, Tennessee, 38105.
