Loretta Coakley Miller of Elkton, Virginia passed peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 surrounded in the loving arms of her family. She was born in Harrisonburg on November 14, 1940, to the late Roy D. and Lucy T. Coakley.
She lived in the Dale Enterprise area during her school years. Her two brothers, Carroll and Norman Coakley preceded her in death.
Loretta graduated from Turner Ashby High School and Dunsmore Business College. She worked in bookkeeping throughout her life and enjoyed being a Merchandizer with American Greetings. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and cruising in the past.
She was a faithful member of Elkton United Methodist Church, holding several offices throughout the years. Members often spoke of how wonderful, kind, and caring she was to all. Her hobbies included sewing, working in her flower beds, and cooking. She was a local member of the Red Hat Society. She had a steadfast hand in raising her grandchildren.
Loretta was united in marriage to John William (Bill) Miller on January 7, 1961, who survives.
Also surviving are her daughter, Denise Gochenour and son, Jeff Miller (Heidi); grandchildren, Jordan Gochenour (Morgan), Hannah Gochenour, and Savannah Gallalee (Joseph); great-granddaughter, Elaina Ann Gochenour whom she held the most special place for her in her heart; numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2026 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Harrisonburg.
There will be a fellowship meal following the service at Loretta's church, Elkton United Methodist, 205 Warren St., Elkton, VA 22827.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to Elkton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 82, Elkton, VA 22827
