Ernest Bowman Rexrode III

We are heartbroken to announce that Ernest Bowman "Ernie or E.B." Rexrode, III, 71, of Keezletown, VA left us unexpectedly due to complications of heart surgery on Friday, December 5, 2025 at Sentara RMH Medical Center. Ernest was born in Harrisonburg on January 16, 1954, and was the son of the late Ernest Bowman Rexrode, Jr. and Martha K. Shifflett Rexrode.
Ernie graduated from Turner Ashby High School with the class of 1972. He worked at Kawneer for 16 years and had a multitude of jobs over the years and retired from Early's Cycle Center in 2013. He enjoyed riding motorcycles for over 50 years. Ernie could make friends anywhere he went and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved to build models and could fix anything. Above all else, he loved his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In 1975, he married his soulmate, Bettylou "Cindy" Rexrode, who survives.
Surviving family members in addition to his wife of 50 years, is a daughter, Angela Rexrode and husband, Daniel; two sisters, Carolyn Whetzel and Brenda Miller; and feline best friend, Sid.
Ernie was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Wayne "Andy" Rexrode and a sister, Rebecca "Becky" Coleman.
The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The family encourages friends to dress casual, as Ernie would.
In keeping with his wishes, his body will be cremated and will be interred at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with his son.
