Harry J. Danos, 100, of Niantic CT, passed away on January 16, 2025. He was born in Enfield CT, on May 5, 1924, son of the late John and Alice (Kamaros) Danos. Harry grew up in
Springfield, MA and worked at General Electric before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1943 and receiving training at Amherst College and Yale University. He proudly served as a First Lieutenant during World War II in the Strategic Air Command and, notably, at Iwo Jima.
After the war, Harry returned to his studies, earning a Bachelor of Architecture at Syracuse University, and then his Master of Architecture from Rice University in 1953. Harry was a well-known and celebrated architect, participating or leading in the design of many projects within Connecticut. He remained active in his career until the late 1980s, when he turned his talents to watercolor art, achieving award level recognition from peers, and eventually teaching others the craft into his early 90s. Harrys enormous pride in his Greek heritage was reflected in his art and he mentored others by coordinating painting workshop trips to Greece for many years. He had a remarkable ability to inspire those around him with his contagious enthusiasm and zest for life. He remained active within his community throughout his later years and was recognized by many organizations for his life achievements.
He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife Catherine Kitty (Magiopoulos) Danos, son Michael P. Danos, sister-in-law Mary (Pellegrino) Danos and nephew Christopher V. Danos. Harry is survived by his brother Leonard, 98, sister-in-law Meri (Magiopoulos) Kassanos and families of nieces and nephews Lynn (Danos) Bluhm, John C. Danos, Christopher V.
