Harry Ralph Lundgren, 94, of Hermantown, died Thursday, August 7, 2024. He was born May 24, 1930, in Bruce, WI to Axel and Alma Lundgren.
Harry was formerly employed as a brakeman/conductor for the BNSF railroad, retiring in 1994 after 45 years. After moving to Hermantown from Duluth in 1965, he became a gentleman farmer, raising a few cows, chickens, a horse or two, and planting very large vegetable gardens. His railroad days were spent on the road; but his kids loved his "at home" time, even though most of it was spent fixing whatever they had broken or burned down in his absence.
Harry was an avid hunter and fisherman, and spent many, many deer seasons at the family deer shack, rarely getting skunked. He was the first to get out on the boat for some early morning walleye fishing on Prairie Lake, and the family was often rewarded with a shore lunch. He was a jack of all trades, being able to fix or build just about anything, and up until just recently, took a daily one-mile walk.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; sisters, Ruby, Mayme, and Eleanor; brothers, Harold, Howard and Glen; infant daughter, Patricia; grandson, Jeremy; and son-in-law, Robert Ryan.
Harry is survived by his daughters Suzette (Ed) Brockman, Katherine Ryan, Barbara (Rick Shefchik) Lundgren and Lynda (Bob) Bolf; sons Michael (Heidi Baublitz), Daniel (Laurie), Donald (Sue) and Richard Lundgren; grandchildren Jaymes, Jesse, Claire, Zack, Liza, David, Katie, Leah, Josh and Sarah; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie; and brothers, Ed, Jerry, and Allan.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
