Harry Lee Walter
December 13, 1936 to April 13, 2025
Harry was born in 1936 in Norway, KS to William Fred Walter and Ruby Muriel Smith. Harry grew up on the farm there in Kansas and then moved to Prescott, AZ during high school and graduated from Prescott High School in 1954. After graduation, Harry went off to serve our country in the Navy, continuing to serve in the Reserves even while he attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. He graduated from NAU in 1961, where he became a proud alumnus.
Harry started his career in 1962 with Arthur Andersen (later Accenture) in the Management Consulting division in Phoenix, AZ. He worked on many interesting projects in the early computer age and rose through the levels to become a partner in 1973. Harry left Andersen for a short time to serve as CFO at the Lincoln Caterpillar Company in Lincoln, NE, but rejoined Andersen in their Dallas office in 1978. Harry retired in 1990 and enjoyed retirement life with his wife Dottie, living at Cedar Creek Lake and later traveling around in an RV to see the country together. They finally settled down in North Dallas where they lived until he passed.
Harry knew how to have fun with friends and family – from riding motorcycles in the Phoenix desert, to camping in the Arizona forests, to playing croquet, darts, and bumper pool at home. Harry loved well and was always helping others, whether it was his nieces that he and Dottie took in after their father, Harry's brother Donald, died; serving as a child advocate (CASA) while living at Cedar Creek Lake; or the role he most loved: being a sponsor in AA and mentoring many. He will be greatly missed!
Harry and Dottie, along with their son Scott, are members at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, where Harry attended until he was too sick to continue. Dottie and Scott still attend the Saturday night service where Scott serves as an Usher.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald; and his first wife, Gerry Peddy-Coart. He is survived by his wife Dorothy June of Dallas, his daughter Diane Kennelly (San Tan Valley, AZ), his son Scott Walter (Dallas), and his daughter Alison and her husband Timothy Martin (Golden, CO). He is also survived by his sister Janice Jerrells (Pearland, TX). Harry was much loved by his nieces and nephews: Reye Snitily (Columbus, NE), David Walter (Katy, TX), Bryan Walter (Scranton, PA), Adriana Shumate (Katy, TX), Jacque Bateman (Katy, TX), Mike Jerrells (Katy, TX), and Jennifer Strachota (Nashville, TN). Harry was loved by many grand- and great-grandchildren and great nieces/nephews: Nicole Emery and her children Cody, Donovan, and Gavin, as well as Zachary and Elliott Martin, Stephen and Mark Snitily, Lei Walter, Christi and Alan Shumate, Matt and Kate Bateman, Christopher and Charlie Jerrells, and Cassie and Abby Strachota.
