Harvey I. Bessell

Harvey I. Bessell passed away peacefully Friday, July 5, 2024 with his family by his side at Alpine Nursing Home, Coventry, RI. Harvey was the beloved husband to Janice E. (Gilmore) Bessell, to whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Born in Providence, he was one of 3 children to the late Louis Bessell and Lillian (Gorden) Bessell.
Harvey was a service director for various car dealerships throughout Rhode Island. He won numerous awards as Top Service Director, including trips to Lake George, NY, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii. He also worked at Dave's market in Coventry in the Seafood Department for several years, until 2022. Harvey was an avid baseball fan, who enjoyed watching the Red Sox and the Atlanta Braves.
He is survived by his two children Lisa A. Pickering and her husband Lewis WPD (Ret.) of Warwick, RI, James H. Bessell and his wife Holly of Safety Harbor, Fl. He was the grandfather "Poppy" to Nicole (Pickering) Costa, Christopher Deignan, Katherine Bessell, Daniel Pickering (EPPD), Matthew Deignan, and Michael Bessell. Harvey was the brother of Jerome Bessell (WPD, Ret.) and his wife Frances, and the late Sandra Gardner and her husband the late Joseph. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 10-12pm with a service at 12pm in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA of Care New England Hospice, 51 Health Ln., Warwick, RI 02886.
