Dr. Harvey Daniel "Dan" Bowden Jr

Dr. Harvey Daniel Bowden Jr. "Dan" passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, with his wife by his side…after a long battle with complications from back surgery.

Dan was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area born July 5, 1951, to Harvey Daniel Bowden Sr & Patrica Tallent Bowden, he graduated Brainerd High School in 1969 Followed by medical school in 1976 from The University of TN, Memphis. His area of expertise was family practice and Emergency Medicine.

Dan was an amazing husband, dad, stepdad, papa and physician who touched many lives with his love and kindness. As a doctor, he dedicated nearly 50 years to caring for his patients, but his greatest joy was his family.

Dan met the love of his life, Melinda. From that moment on they shared a once in a lifetime love. Even though their time together was cut short, Dan and Melinda loved every moment they had together, making the most of their time and cherishing every second. They enjoyed traveling, especially going on cruises, visits to Dans favorite…Jekyll Island, and the Smoky Mountains…even at home just relaxing was time well spent for the two of them. Dan's enthusiasm for life and adventure was contagious.

Dan had a special way of making everyone feel loved and special. He adored his daughter Abigail (Abby) and was so proud of the person she is becoming (future nurse) following in his footsteps to the medical field was extra special for him.

Dans family adored him, and he loved them right back. When he wasn't working or spending time with family, Dan enjoyed amateur radio "HAM radio", connecting with friends and fellow enthusiasts. He was also a HUGE Tennessee Volunteers fan - he always believed it would be their year to win it all. He proudly wore TN orange for his beloved Vols.

Dan loved his work family at Erlanger Hospital, Dr. Brenda Ross, Dr. Tammy Bowers, Jennifer Miller and many colleagues became extended family to him.

Dan's love, kindness, and legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His wife's heart goes with him to heaven, where love knows no bounds. He'll be deeply missed, but his memory will bring smiles and warmth to all who loved him."

He is proceeded in death by his parents Harvey Daniel Bowden Sr and Patrica Tallent Bowden.

He is survived by his wife, Melinda, his daughter Abigail Bowden (Abby), bonus children, James Grimes, Jennifer Clark (Frank), six grandchildren, Michael Chesser, Jenna Kay Chesser, Alex Clark, Blake Clark, Devin Grimes, and Kennedy Grimes, his brother Michael Bowden (Jan).

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Heritage Funeral Home East Brainerd Road Chapel with Dr. Tony Wilson officiating. Dan will be laid to rest at Beautiful Greenwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM– 1:00 PM prior to services.
