On Friday, June 16, 2023, the world lost, but heaven gained, a wonderful husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend when Harvey Johnson, Jr.,“Mr. J” gained his wings. Harvey’s birth in Dayton, OH on September 29, 1946 to Robbie Lee (Blythe) Johnson and Harvey Johnson, Sr. was only the beginning of a life well-lived for a man who was well-loved.

Visitation Friday, June 23, 2023, 12:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Foston Funeral Home with the family present 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.  Celebration of Life 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Boiling Spring Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Boiling Spring Church Cemetery.

Harvey was unwavering in his love of Christ and was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church for many years. He graduated from Mayfield High School in Mayfield, KY and after gaining his barber’s license, he went on to enjoy a long career as a Master Barber serving the community on Ft. Campbell and as the co-owner of Ringgold Plaza Barbershop in Clarksville, TN. Mr. J was known for acting as a mentor and father figure throughout his life and many have attributed his guidance to their successes in life.  Harvey joined the Masonic family as a member of Thomas A. Simms Lodge in 1969 and faithfully served for over 50 years, helping to make a positive impact on his community. He was also a member of the Kentucky Colonels and the Clarksville Chapter of the NAACP. Harvey was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Johnson, Sr. and siblings: Harvetta Johnson, Kenneth Johnson, and  Clarissa “Tootie” Johnson.

He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife, Garnitha Johnson, mother, Robbie Lee Johnson, sister, Jo Smith, daughters: Norlishia (Keith) Johnson-Walker Victoria Johnson-Jackson (Cyvon),  (step)daughters: Tracie Cole, LaTonya (Jarrett) Johnson, Kenyatta Cross,  Tammy Thomas, and God daughter, Twasone (William) Barnes-Walker,  son, Harvey Johnson, II,  (step)sons: Alfred (Latonia) Thomas & Altien (Danielle) Butler, 33 grandchildren, 37 great-grand-children, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and more god-children, special friends, and people who loved him than we may ever know.

Harvey’s great loves were his wife, and he made sure that we ALL knew it, his family, who he referred to as the best family in the world, frying fish, acting as a barber and mentor, watching movies, hearing funny stories that made him laugh so hard that he cried, good music, and being part of his Masonic family. If you want to honor his memory, please keep his legacy of loving your fellow man and helping others to reach their potential alive.

Harvey was not only an excellent Barber, Dedicated Mason and Community activist ; he was an individual who spoke truth. The community has lost a cornerstone and excellent mentor. Heaven has gained an angel to be among the ancestors. Praying for the family.
