Hazel Lorraine Birkey

Hazel L. Birkey, age 70, of Marion, IL, formerly of the Sheldon, IL area, passed away peacefully at 8:34 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at her home.
She was born on December 27, 1954 in Eldorado, IL the daughter of Letty Jane (Farley) Gollihur and Ronald Chester Gollihur, Sr.
She was first united in marriage to Ronnie Gene Harris, Sr. on August 17, 1973 in Eldorado, IL and together they shared nearly 31 years of marriage until his death on April 16, 2004. This union was blessed with 3 sons, Ronnie Gene, Jr., Mark Anthony and Joshua Cecil. She later was united in marriage to Dennis Dean Birkey on May 20, 2006 in Watseka, IL and together they have shared 19 years of marriage.
Her working career was in factory work for many years in Kentland, IN until her retirement. After her retirement she worked as an assistant with the Head Start School Bus Program of Watseka, IL for about 10 years until her retirement.
In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting and crocheting. She also enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was always interested in hearing about all the many activities going on in their lives. The many memories created will now be cherished by those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis D. Birkey of Marion, IL; three sons, Ronnie G. Harris and wife, Krista of Milford, IL, Mark A. Harris and wife, Nicole of Sheldon, IL and Joshua C. Harris and wife, Christina of Sheldon, IL; step daughter, Michelle Birkey of Gibson City, IL; step son, Kevin Birkey and wife, Raquel of Portland, TX; seven grandchildren, Logan Harris and wife, Emma of Champaign, IL, Emma Harris of Remington, IN, Madison Harris of Watseka, IL, Kaleb Harris of Sheldon, IL, Kadin Harris of Sheldon, IL, Lillie Harris of Sheldon, IL and Channing Harris of Sheldon, IL; nine step-grandchildren, Zechariah Pace of Gibson City, IL, Hannah Pace of Pontiac, IL, Tabitha Masterson of Decatur, IL, Tyler Kollross of Godfrey, IL, Miles Hansens of Gibson City, IL, Hayley Birkey of Portland, TX, Jordan Birkey of Portland, TX, Madison Birkey of Portland, TX and Wesley Birkey of Portland, TX; four sisters, Linda Coons of Indianapolis, IN, Marlene Irvin of Galatia, IL, Arlene Casteel and husband, Tim of Eldorado, IL and Dorothy Campbell of Birmingham, AL; brother-in-law, Robert Birkey of Farmer City, IL, sister-in-law, Diana Birkey of Mundelein, IL, several nieces and nephews, other extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband; brother, Ronald Chester Gollihur, Jr. and half-sister, Lucy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.
