Hazel Irene Friot

OGDENSBURG - Graveside services for Hazel Irene (Hurlbert) Friot, age 95, of Ogdensburg, NY, will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Flackville Cemetery, with Rev. David Hart officiating.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.

Mrs. Friot passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at her home, under the care of St. Lawrence Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.

She is survived by her children, Stephen Friot and his wife, Brenda, of Ogdensburg, NY, and Debra Mahnke and her husband, Terry, of Ogdensburg, NY; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, George and Ida Hurlbert; her son, William Friot; and three brothers and three sisters.

Hazel was born on August 28, 1930, in Kemptville, Ontario, the daughter of the late George Alfred and Ida May (Christie) Hurlbert. She married Douglas H. Friot on July 24, 1948, in Prescott, Ontario. He predeceased her on December 8, 2003.

Throughout her life, Hazel was devoted to her family and was known for her caring and generous nature. She opened her home to care for state patients for many years and later operated a halfway house in Cicero, where she looked after residents until her husband's retirement.

Hazel enjoyed spending winters in Florida, traveling, camping, boating, and attending bingo and casino outings. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family.
