HAMMOND – Ann E. Mitchell, 95, of Hammond, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the Hospice House of Jefferson County in Watertown. She will be laid to rest in Brookside Cemetery, alongside her beloved husband, John, her daughter, Debbie, and her son, Donald.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.

Ann was born on June 25, 1930, in Waddington, NY, the daughter of the late Clifford and Dorothy (Palmer) Allison. She began her education in a one-room schoolhouse in Waddington and graduated from Waddington High School in 1947. On June 16, 1949, she married John C. Mitchell, who predeceased her on March 21, 2019, just three months shy of their 70th wedding anniversary.

Ann and John's first farm in Waddington was acquired through eminent domain during the construction of the Seaway. The couple then moved to Hammond, where they established a new farm and worked side by side for many years. In addition to farming, Ann served as the Town Clerk of Hammond for 18 years, becoming the first Democrat ever elected to that office.

She had a deep love for gardening, caring for animals (especially the calves), and working alongside John.

Ann is survived by her son, David Mitchell of Hammond. She was predeceased by her husband, John; her daughter, Debbie Mitchell; her son, Donald Mitchell; her sisters, Sally Tracy and Jane Wood; and her cousin, Dorothy Wilson, with whom she shared a close bond.
