Hazel Oquinn Harris, 89, of Newberry, South Carolina, died Saturday, February 21, 2026, at J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home in Newberry, South Carolina.
Born November 6, 1936, in Buchanon County, Virginia, she was a daughter to the late James Albert and Pricey Deel Oquinn. She was the widow of the late Genel "Gene" Miles Harris.
Hazel dedicated her life to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. As a devoted housewife, she created a warm and welcoming home, and throughout the years she also held various jobs, always working hard to provide for those she loved.
Hazel enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. She loved attending yard sales, dancing whenever music was playing and preparing home-cooked meals for her family. Her kitchen was often the heart of family gatherings, where laughter was shared and memories were made. She especially enjoyed her Dr Pepper and hardly caught without one in her hand.
Hazel will be remembered for her warmth, her lively spirit, and the deep love she had for her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Leon Boyd (Mildred), Jerry Boyd (Nancy), Scarlett Boyd, Judy Lester, and Cheyenne Harris (Debbie). Also surviving are her grandchildren, Josh Boyd (Ashley), Gabe Boyd (Kandace), Missy Sykes (Jody), Greg Ransake, Mathew Ransake, Jessica Rivers (Jason), Keith Boyd (Marilyn), Kristie Davis (Christopher), Jamie Peterson, James Denver, Jason Lester, Andrea Carr (Adam), Nina Lester (Jason), Cheylynna Hess (Jeff), Ashley Lester (Matthew), and Sarah McGlothlin (Josh); along with numerous great-grandchildren; extended family members; and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Carl Boyd; five sisters; and two brothers.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry. Interment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the hour of service, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.
